We normally hold Gift Days in the spring and autumn each year, when we hear an update on the church's finances and have an opportunity to respond to the opportunities and needs. For many of us, they are useful time to review the level of our regular giving, as well as providing an opportunity to make one-off gifts.

While we can't hold a Gift Day corporately, we feel it is still helpful to give you this update now, and ask you to consider how you might respond - if possible, by 24th May 2020.

Children's Worker Post

If you were here last autumn, you may recall that we started fundraising towards a new, full-time Children's Worker post, to start this autumn term. The current lockdown has unfortunately delayed our plans; however, we are still very keen to carry on with the appointment, as soon as it is practicable and wise to do so, because the need and opportunities for the role are undiminished.

We are therefore eager to see regular giving continue to rise in order to meet our current needs, and to put us in a better position as possible to meet the regular costs of the post out of regular income, as soon as we are able to appoint the right person. We made a good start in this regard last autumn, with a significant increase in regular giving, but there is still a considerable way to go.

This Gift Day

Based on current forecasts, we will need additional regular and/or one-off giving of £30,000 or more this spring Gift Day, with a similar increase in the autumn, in order to fund our current activities and to prepare us for the Children's Worker when possible. This is on top of the existing regular giving which so many of you generously provide, which supports all that goes on here in Headington and, through our partners, across the UK and overseas.

Giving through Covid-19

We recognise that the current economic shutdown has resulted in significant financial uncertainty and hardship for some church members. If you need to reduce or pause your regular giving to the church, we quite understand, and
would ask that you contact us to let us know, without any embarrassment.

For others, we would invite you to consider increasing your regular giving, both to cover any resulting reduction in our income, as well as to help fund the ongoing ministry of the church. Although we are not gathering physically, our costs as a church have not reduced significantly at this time, as activities-related costs represent only a small proportion of our total expenditure, the bulk of which goes on supporting our staff and our mission partners.
